I Fought the Computer and the Computer Won!

It all started Thursday night, my computer was messing up and I was unsure of what exactly was happening. Then Friday morning it seemed to be worse. I called Apple and we tried all sorts of things to fix it. Then it happened...I had to "fix" some errors it had. Okay, no big deal. I can do this. After trying to fix them we were at our last option, try again and hope it works. Well it didn't. My hard drive was finished. Everything was gone. 8000+ pictures, files, letters, recipes....all gone. I cried and was so mad at myself for not getting the external hard drive we had been "talking" about. Made an appointment with Apple and drove to Birmingham to hopefully fix it and was told the only option was to install a new hard drive. So as I type my hard drive is being replaced and the other one being removed so I can hopefully have someone recover things from it. Do you know how much that cost?!? I called the company Apple recommended and got a quote...anywhere from $700-$2400!! Oh my goodness. The rep I talked to was very helpful and understanding. Is it worth it? Oh yes! It won't get done right away but I'm saving my pennies to send it to them next year sometime in the hopes they deem it recoverable. And in the mean time I'll be buying an external hard drive to put things on, especially pictures, and hoping this never happens again.
